Other Information
Together with NVIDIA and OpenACC organization, Helmholtz (supported by HIDA) will host a hybrid Open Hackathon from 1st - 11th April 2025.
Open Hackathons are multi-day, intensive hands-on events designed to help computational scientists and researchers port, accelerate and optimise their applications on a variety of data centre architectures including CPUs and GPUs.
The event pairs participants with dedicated mentors experienced in programming and targeted application areas to realise performance gains and speedups using a variety of programming models, libraries, and tools.
Participating teams should leave the event either with their applications accelerated and/or optimised on the latest supercomputing hardware or with a clear roadmap of the next steps needed to leverage these resources.
Event Format
The Helmholtz Open Hackathon will be hosted primarily as an in-person event. Days 0-1 (25 March, 1 April) will be held virtually, and Days 2-5 (8-11 April) held in-person at Forschungszentrum Jülich. Communication channels will be Zoom, Slack, and email. The time zone for this event will be CEST. Attendees are responsible for covering their own travel expenses.
Under special circumstances, remote attendance of part of the team can be made possible, although we require at least two team members to join in person. Please contact the organisers if any team members will need to join remotely.
The event will be held entirely in English.
Compute Resources
Attendees will be given access to a GPU cluster for the duration of the hackathon.
Attending the Hackathon
If your team is accepted for the hackathon, registration information will be provided along with mentor introductions and cluster access information. Accepted teams must:
- Register all team members for the event.
