Croatian competence centre for HPC day

The University Computing Centre (SRCE), in collaboration with its partners—the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Information Technology Osijek at Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture at the University of Split, the Ruđer Bošković Institute, and the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Rijeka—is once again organizing the Croatian HPC Competence Centre Days.
Taking place on 24 and 25 November 2026 at SRCE, Zagreb, Croatia, the event will bring together Croatian and European experts, researchers, and representatives of academia, industry, and the public sector interested in high-performance computing (HPC), artificial intelligence (AI), and quantum computing. The programme will focus on computing infrastructure and its applications in science, industry, and the public sector.

Day 1: Hands-On Workshops – From MPI Programming to Practical AI Agents
24 November, is dedicated to hands-on parallel workshops covering the fundamentals of MPI programming and the practical application of AI agents.
Featured Workshop on english - AI Agents: From Buzzword to Reality
From first setup to your own working prototype in one day. Explore the practical potential of AI agents by setting up a coding agent (Claude Code or OpenAI Codex) and using it to build a working prototype tailored to your needs, such as a dashboard, research assistant, or everyday productivity tool.
Presenter: Bernhard Götzendorfer, Lead Venture Studio, AI Factory Austria AI
•    Time: 9:00 AM–4:00 PM (lunch break: 12:30–1:00 PM; coffee breaks: 10:30 AM and 2:45 PM)
•    Format: In-person, hands-on workshop in English
•    Who should attend: SMEs, researchers, start-ups, and anyone interested in applying AI agents in practice
•    Prerequisites: No programming experience required
•    What to bring: A laptop (Windows, macOS, or Linux) and a charger. A free ChatGPT account is sufficient to use Codex, while Claude Code requires a Claude Pro subscription (approximately USD 20/month). Setup instructions will be sent to registered participants one week before the workshop.
Language: The AI Agents workshop on 24 November will be held in English. The rest of the event programme will be conducted in Croatian.

Day 2: AI, HPC and Quantum Computing – Insights and Use Cases
The second day, 25 November, will focus on the latest developments in AI, HPC, and quantum computing in Croatia and across Europe. The programme will include presentations, discussions, and real-world use cases covering:
•    Artificial Intelligence in Croatia: Presentations and discussions on the National and Action Plans for Artificial Intelligence and the development of the Croatian AI Factory.
•    European HPC Insights: Insights from a representative of the European High Performance Computing Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU) on European initiatives and developments in HPC.
•    HPC in Science and Industry: Use cases of how supercomputers are being used to address challenges in research, industry, and other application areas.
•    Quantum Computing in Practice: The first Croatian experiences with two EuroHPC JU quantum computers, presented by the Ruđer Bošković Institute (RBI), one of the partners of NCC Croatia.
•    AI :AT experiences: A representative of AI Factory Austria will share practical insights and experiences from working with business users and supporting the adoption of AI solutions in companies.
