How do we use the epidemiological prediction method on a supercomputer?

We invite you to the Experience Exchange Seminar, which will take place on 12 June (13:30 to 18:30) at the RTU Science and Innovation Center hall “MushRoom” (Kipsala Street 6A, 2nd floor, 247 cabinet).

The aim of the workshop is to get acquainted with the epidemiological forecasting model developed by the Polish ICM and to discuss the possibilities of establishing cooperation between Polish and Latvian professional stakeholders.

The ICM Epidemiological Model describes the development of the COVID-19 epidemic in Poland. It is capable of forecasting potential paths of further epidemic development, as well as simulating various scenarios and effects introduced by dynamically applied administrative restrictions.

We provide the results of short-term predictions as well as possible variants of the spread of the epidemic on longer time scales, assuming appropriate restrictions or parameters of the disease.

The main idea of the model is to utilize the possibly complete representation of the country’s social structure to the level of individual people residing in Poland and their contacts. This approach offers potentially great opportunities, but it is also associated with enormous analytical and programming work and a constant struggle to obtain the data needed to construct and calibrate the model. However, we already have some practice in this.

Agenda

13:30 Registration and coffee available.

14:00 Opening

14:10 The ICM Epidemiological model and its applications. Dr.Franciszek Rakowsky, Interdisciplinary Centre for Mathematical and Computational Modelling, University of Warsaw.

This is the fifth year that Open HPC week has taken place in Latvia in June by the HPC Competence Center in Latvia “SuperS” within the framework of the EuroCC 2 project “National Competence Centers for EuroHPC” (EuroCC 2) in cooperation with Interdisciplinary Centre for Mathematical and Computational Modelling University of Warsaw (ICM UW), Latvian Ministry of Health, RTU HPC Center and the Institute of Numerical Modeling of the University of Latvia.
