Purpose:

The workshop teaches participants to run parallel MATLAB jobs on Cyfronet’s Ares supercomputer. It covers how to use its multicore processors and GPUs for compute- and data-intensive problems. It is co-funded by the EU through EuroCC 3 and organised by ACC Cyfronet AGH.

Target audience:

Polish academics and researchers with data- or compute-intensive projects who want to use Cyfronet’s supercomputing resources.
Eligibility: The course is also open to academia, industry and public administration from EU Member States and Horizon Europe associated countries.
Level: Between basic and intermediate.

Prerequisites:

  • Working knowledge of MATLAB.
  • Your own laptop with MATLAB and the Parallel Computing Toolbox (R2025a, R2025b or R2026a).
  • A registration using your institutional email, since private or generic addresses are rejected.

Venue:

  • Conference Rooms, ground floor, Edison building, Kołowa 8, 30-134 Kraków. This is a different building from the main Cyfronet site at Nawojki 11, about a 15-minute walk away.

  • Format and language: In person, in English.
  • Lunch: Not provided, so plan your own.

Value of attendance:

  • You learn to move MATLAB jobs from your laptop to Ares.
  • You get hands-on practice parallelising algorithms, and learn best practices.
  • You get free one-to-one consultancy on your own MATLAB projects with a MathWorks expert.

Registration is free of charge, and the instructor is an experienced MathWorks application engineer. Raymond Norris has spent over 30 years at the company and leads a team integrating MathWorks parallel tools with HPC clusters and the cloud.
