Practical Introduction to High Performance Computing
This hands-on session provides a practical introduction to High Performance Computing (HPC). Participants will work directly with HPC environments to explore the fundamentals of parallel computing, become familiar with modern cluster architectures, learn how to access and use supercomputing resources, and gain practical experience in running and managing jobs on a computing cluster for real-world applications.
The session focuses on practical exercises that will help participants develop the skills and confidence needed to make effective use of HPC resources in their own projects.
The practical session will be delivered entirely online and in English. Throughout the session, instructors will guide participants and assist them with any questions or challenges that may arise.
Course content and learning outcomes
Participants will learn how to:
- Understand the principles and applications of HPC and parallel computing.
- Identify the main components of a modern computing cluster.
- Access an HPC environment remotely and use the Linux command line.
- Prepare and submit jobs to a queueing system.
- Monitor jobs, interpret results and identify execution errors.
- Apply HPC resources to real-world projects.
