One of the main objectives of EuroCC Spain RES is to promote HPC training for companies that currently do not benefit from this technology but could gain an important competitive advantage from it. For this reason, this High Performance Computing course has been developed, aimed at companies that are not regular users of HPC but could benefit from it. The course is an online, self-paced program based on video lessons and additional materials such as self-assessment quizzes. It focuses on the use of supercomputers. A supercomputer is a computing system made up of a large set of processors interconnected by a high-capacity network, capable of working together to solve a common problem. These systems are housed in public and private data centers, which manage and administer them to provide users with all the available computing power.

The target audience is companies that need to increase their computing capacity, either due to the use of very complex algorithms or the need to manage large amounts of data. Example applications include machine learning, deep learning, science and engineering, biomedicine, computational simulation, and computer graphics.

The theoretical concepts covered are:

  • What is supercomputing?
  •  Parallel programming paradigms.
  •  Access to supercomputing resources.
  •  Cluster architecture.
  • Compute nodes.
  • Data center and auxiliary systems.
  • Access and utilization of a supercomputer.
  • The workload manager.
