Event/Course Description

The Center for Informatics and Computing of the Ruđer Bošković Institute (RBI) is hosting 'Supercomputing in the natural sciences' – a one-day event which will be held on May 17, 2023 at RBI, starting at 10:00 a.m.

The event is open for all scientists and researchers who want to gain a better insight into the latest achievements of high-performance computing (HPC) and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in the fields of molecular medicine and biology, computational and medicinal chemistry, and cosmology.

Participants will have the opportunity to refresh existing and acquire new knowledge in advanced computing, and to learn how to independently use HPC software in mentioned scientific fields.

The event is held as part of the cooperation between the Institute of Information Sciences, Maribor (IZUM), the University of Rijeka (UNIRI), Sestre Milosrdnice University Hospital Center and IRB, and within the framework of the EuroCC 2 project.

The Centre for Informatics and Computing is part of the Croatian Competence Centre for HPC, which is the central place where end users from the system of science and higher education, industry and public administration have access to innovative solutions adapted to the level of maturity of the national and European HPC infrastructure and to different groups of users, that is, their needs and requirements. The Centre contributes to the strengthening of existing and the development of new competences in the field of High Performance Computing (HPC), and creates prerequisites for synergistic action on the construction of policies, financing and resource management in three areas: HPC, High Performance Data Analytics (HPDA) and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

After the completion of the EuroCC project, the Croatian Competence Centre for HPC continues to develop through the National Competence Centres in the Framework of EuroHPC Phase 2 (EuroCC 2).

With SRCE in the role of consortium leader and national partner in the project, Croatian institutions are supported in the implementation of the project by the Ministry of Science and Education, and Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture, Split (FESB), Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Information Technologies Osijek (FERIT), University of Rijeka Faculty of Engineering (RITEH) and the Ruđer Bošković Institute participate in the role of related entities.
