Event/Course Description
In recent decades, climate models have become an integral part of climate science. They allow us to not only predict the Earth's future climate but also to reconstruct the past and better understand the present climate. In this talk, you will learn how they work, what supercomputers they run on, and the broader context of climate change and human impact on the climate. I will also cover the current topics of kilometre-scale global climate modelling, microplastics and their potential impact on the climate, how climate models can be evaluated using lidar measurements, how artificial intelligence is used in climate modelling, and how cloud types can be identified using artificial intelligence.
